Hempstead, N.Y. - The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will face Wright State in a televised ESPN Bracket Buster contest on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. (ESPNU).
Hofstra will be making its sixth appearance in ESPN's Bracket Buster Weekend, including its third in a televised game. The Pride is a perfect 5-0 at the event, including televised wins at home over Holy Cross in 2007 and at Fairfield in 2009, in addition to non-televised wins over Siena (2006), Iona (2008) and Rider (2010).
Hofstra Head Coach Mo Cassara will be returning to Dayton, Ohio, after having served as an assistant coach at Dayton for one season in 2003-04 under Brian Gregory. Wright State Head Coach Billy Donlon was also an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington of the Colonial Athletic Association for five years (2001-06). In addition, Donlon's father coached scholastic basketball up the road from Hofstra at what is now Kellenberg High School.
Wright State (from the Horizon League) is 14-9 this season and 9-1 at home, including a 69-64 win over Butler, which was the runner-up in the 2010 NCAA Tournament to Duke. Senior guard Vaughn Duggins leads the Raiders in scoring at 16.4 points per game, and he also leads them in rebounding at just 3.9 boards per game.
Hofstra and Wright State have never played each other in men's basketball. It will be Hofstra's fifth game on the ESPN family of networks this season, including three at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off and a road game at VCU this past Thursday.
