Hempstead, N.Y. - Senior guard Charles Jenkins (Queens, N.Y.) was named a third-team All-American by both Sports Illustrated.com and CBS Sports.com, it was announced today.
Jenkins currently ranks seventh in the country in scoring with 22.9 points per game, and is the only player in the top 15 in scoring who is shooting over 50 percent from the floor. He also averages 4.8 assists, the highest average of any player in the top 10 in scoring.
For his career, Jenkins has amassed 2,499 points, which is a school record, ranks him second in Colonial Athletic Association history, and leaves him one point away from becoming the 61st player in NCAA history to score 2,500. He is 11 points ahead of Andrew Goudelock of Charleston as the highest active scorer in the country, and is also 32 points away from moving into the top 50 scorers of all-time.
Jenkins helped Hofstra to a 21-11 record and an appearance in the CAA semifinals this winter. The Pride finished 14-4 in the CAA during the regular season, tying its best mark since joining the league in 2001-02, while its second place tie represented its highest-ever finish in the CAA standings.
The Pride is expected to receive a postseason bid when the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), College Basketball Invitational (CBI) and CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) announce their fields on Sunday evening.
