Hofstra Advances To CAA Semifinals On Penalty Kicks

West Long Branch, NJ - Krista Agostinello's seventh round penalty kick sent eighth-seeded Hofstra on to the Colonial Athletic Association Semifinals over top-seeded Monmouth. The teams played to a 1-1 draw following two overtimes before the Pride was able to advance, 5-4, on penalty kicks. Agostinello's winner was set up by a clutch save from Skylar Kuzmich on Monmouth's seventh attempt.

Hofstra moved to 8-7-4 with the tie. It was the second 1-1 draw against Monmouth this season following a regular season tie on September 29 at Monmouth. The Hawks are now 13-2-3.

The Pride took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute as Anja Suttner bent a free kick from just beyond the 18-yard box around the wall and inside the far post. The Hawks would tie the game in the 62nd minute as Summer Reimet came in along the left end line and sent a tough-angled shot inside the far post.

The score would remain that way through the end of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods to set up penalty kicks. Each team was successful in their first three rounds. The Hawks held a 4-3 advantage after Hofstra's fourth attempt was saved by Cassandra Coster. Monmouth had a chance to win in the fifth round but Reimet sent the kick high. The Pride converted on their fifth attempt. Each team missed their sixth attempts before Kuzmich saved a shot by Lauren Bruno to set Agostinello up for the "winner". The fifth-year co-captain put the ball into the top left side of the goal, over a diving Coster before dropping to her knees in celebration.

Kuzmich had four saves in the game during regulation and overtime. Coster recorded six stops for Monmouth.

Hofstra will play the winner of the Towson-Elon game Sunday at 2 p.m. at Monmouth's Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.
