CAA Championship Game Bound; Hofstra Downs Towson In CAA Semifinals

West Long Branch, NJ - Olivia Pearse had a first half penalty kick goal and Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir added an insurance goal in the second half as the eighth-seeded Pride advanced to the Colonial Athletic Championship game with a 2-0 victory over No. 5 Towson Sunday at Monmouth's Hesse Field on the Great Lawn. The Pride will face third-seeded Northeastern in the CAA Championship game Saturday at Northeastern. The game will take place at Parsons Field in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Hofstra moves to 9-7-4 with the win, while the Tigers finish the season with a record of 12-4-5.

Hofstra got on the board in the 11th minute, as Thorhallsdottir was brought down in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Pearse stepped to the spot and sent a shot low to the right of Towson keeper Riley Melendez, who was basically frozen on the play and did not make a move to stop it.

Hofstra doubled its lead at 54:01 when Anja Suttner sent a free kick in on Melendez that was saved, However, the rebound reached the feet of Thorhallsdottir, who banged home her seventh goal of the season for a 2-0 lead. The two goals allowed by Towson were the second most the team has allowed all season.

The Pride defense did the job on the Towson offense, holding the Tigers to six shots with just two on goal. The unit did an exceptional job on the CAA's leading scorer Nia Christopher (13 goals), as the All-CAA First Team selection was held to just one off target shot.

Skylar Kuzmich made two saves in goal for the Pride, while Melendez had two stops for Towson. The Tigers also played well defensively, limiting the Pride to eight shots with four on goal.
