Hofstra Advances To CAA Championship Game With 4-1 Win Over Delaware

Hempstead, NY - Top-seeded and 17th-ranked Hofstra tied a season high with four goals, with two from Ryan Carmichael, and the Pride defense held fourth-seeded Delaware to one shot on goal as the Pride advanced to the Coastal Athletic Association Championship game for the fourth consecutive season with a 4-1 semifinal victory at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Pride will be seeking a third consecutive CAA Championship when they host second-seeded Monmouth on Saturday, November 11 at 7 p.m.

Hofstra improved to 12-3-4 on the season with its third straight win. Delaware sees its season end at 9-4-6.

Carmichael got Hofstra started at 15:49 when he put in the rebound of Teddy Baker's shot for his 13th goal of the season. Baker's shot was saved by goalkeeper Adam Vik, but Carmichael was on the doorstep and got to the rebound before Vik could corral it. Carmichael struck again at 28:22 when he took a pass from Roc Carles and raced in on the left side and sent in a shot from a tough angle that got past Vik for a 2-0 lead. The Pride made it a 3-0 game just before halftime as Shane Salmon raced down the right sideline before cutting in along the end line and scoring in the upper left corner from a difficult angle with 24 seconds before intermission.

Hofstra would take a 4-0 lead just about 20 minutes into the second half with some solid ball movement inside the box. After several passes, Albert Kang took a one-touch pass from Eoin Farrell and cut back before sending a left-footed shot into the far corner to close the Pride scoring.

Delaware got its first shot on goal with 2:30 left to play when the Pride was called for a foul inside the box. Orri Thorhallsson converted the penalty kick to break the Hofstra shutout bid.

Wessel Speel did not make a save in picking up the win in net for the Pride. Vik made three saves for the Blue Hens.

Hofstra won the regular season meeting against Monmouth, 1-0, at home on October 7.
