Golden Hour! Davies Overtime Winner Sends Hofstra To CAA Semifinals

West Long Branch, NJ - Millie Davies scored the game's only goal 2:40 seconds into the first overtime period as No. 4 Hofstra advanced to the Coastal Athletic Association Championship Semifinals with a 1-0 victory over No. 5 Delaware Thursday evening at Monmouth's Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. It marks the 19th time that Hofstra has reached the semifinals of the CAA Championship. Hofstra improved to 8-4-6 with the win, while Delaware sees its season end with a 6-7-6 mark.

The teams battled through a scoreless 90 minutes, though each side had chances. The Blue Hens hit the crossbar less than five minutes into the game to miss a great scoring chance, while Hofstra struck the bar on a set piece midway through the second half. The Blue Hens had another chance late in the first half on a breakaway that was turned away by keeper Synne Danielsen, who came off her line to get gloves on the ball. Delaware also had another strong chance inside the final 90 seconds that Louise Hayden came out of nowhere to block just outside of the goal mouth.

With momentum seemingly on the side of the Blue Hens, it was Hofstra that pressed the action in the extra session. Following a ball that was batted away by Delaware keeper and CAA Goalkeeper of the Year Kyla Burns, the ball was then headed by a Blue Hen player right to Davies, who responded with a header of her own into the open net.

Danielsen made three saves for Hofstra, while Burns had four stops for the Blue Hens.

Hofstra advances to play top-seeded Monmouth in the CAA Semifinals Sunday at 1 p.m. The teams met on October 24 with Monmouth taking a 3-2 victory.
