HOFSTRA TAKES HOME TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SINGLES PLAY AT THE NJIT TENNIS INVITATIONAL

Hempstead, NY - Freshman Paige Polizois of the women's tennis team and Alex Hosner of the men's squad took home singles titles on day three of the NJIT Tennis Invitational at Brookdale Park in Montclair, New Jersey.

Singles play was spread over two days and Polizois went 3-0 to earn her title, defeating Maria Perevezentseva of Queens, 8-1, in the Flight D Final on Sunday.

Hosner also went 3-0 as he captured the Flight B championship with an 8-4 victory over Alex Frakes of Saint Peter's College.

The Pride was in line for another title on the women's side as junior Christie Gattelaro and sophomore Brooke Sailer both advanced to the finals at Flight C, but the match was not played.  Both players were 3-0 heading into the finals.

On the women's side, Hofstra compiled an overall record of 16-3 in singles as four players had at least three victories.  Junior Lauren Clifton also made her way to the finals before falling to Maria Eduarda, 8-6, in the Flight A title match.

Joining Hosner with multiple victories on the men's side were juniors Ben Thompson-Star (3-1) and Stian Tvedt (2-1).  Thompson-Star won the consolation finals bracket, defeating JJ Gramatica, 8-5, in the finals.  Tvedt, meanwhile, dropped an 8-4 decision to Carl Lundquist of NJIT in the semifinals of the Flight A bracket.

The Hofstra Men's Tennis team is back in action on Wednesday when they host Fordham at 3 p.m.  This weekend both squads will be on the road as the women travel to the Bucknell Invitational and the men head to the Brown Invitaitonal.
