HOFSTRA HOSTS JAMES MADISON AT 2 P.M. SATURDAY

10/29/2009 6:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Men's Soccer team's home game with James Madison on Saturday was moved to a 2 p.m. kickoff at Hofstra Soccer Stadium, it was announced today.

The Colonial Athletic Association moved the start time since James Madison has to make up a home game against Northeastern on Monday, which was rained out earlier this fall.

Hofstra comes into the game with an 8-6-1 overall record and a 6-2-1 mark in the CAA. A win over James Madison could feasibly clinch a postseason berth for the Pride, depending on other results. Hofstra is securely in fourth place in the CAA at 6-2-1, one game ahead of fifth-place George Mason, which the Pride defeated head-to-head 2-0. Hofstra would thus have a two-way tiebreaker with George Mason if the Patriots were able to catch the Pride (although if William & Mary closed out 1-1 and joined a three-way tie at 7-3-1, the tiebreaker scenarios would become more complicated).

After defeating Towson 1-0 on Wednesday, the Pride improved to 4-1-1 in its last six games. Freshman midfielder Stephan Barea (Levittown, NY) scored the only goal in the game, and sophomore goalkeeper Greg Cumpstone (Haddam, CT) notched his fourth shutout in the last six games. Cumpstone now has a career record of 11-4-3 in CAA contests.

Last year, Hofstra came away with a 2-1 win over James Madison in Harrisonburg, improving to 6-2 in the series since the Pride joined the CAA in 2002. Current sophomore Brett Carrington (St. George, Barbados) scored the game-winning goal in the second half, snd current senior Rory McCrea (Sherburn-In-Elmet, England) assisted on both Pride goals. All eight games in the series have been decided by one goal, including three in overtime.

James Madison is fighting for its postseason hopes as it enters the weekend with a 3-4-1 mark in conference play (8-5-2 overall). The Dukes had a successful non-conference run, including a 3-0 home win over Penn State, but would be eliminated from contention for the four-team CAA Tournament with one more defeat.
