Hempstead, NY - The
Hofstra Football Team will be looking to even their season record this
Saturday, November 14 when they travel to Boston to face the Huskies of Northeastern
University at Parsons Field. Game time for the CAA clash is 1 p.m.
The Pride come into the contest with a 4-5 record and a 2-4 mark in the CAA
following their 28-24 loss at Delaware last Saturday. Hofstra outgained the
Blue Hens, 351-305, but suffered their third loss of the year by eight points
or less and their second loss to a Top 25 team.
Saturday's game is the 16th meeting between Hofstra and Northeastern in a
series that started in 1954. Northeastern leads the series, 9-6, and has won
three of the last five meetings. The
Pride is 5-3 against the Huskies in Hempstead but 1-6 in Boston. The two teams
last met in 2008 with the Pride recording a 42-14 victory at Shuart Stadium. Northeastern
downed the Pride in Boston, 35-31, in 2007, and on Long island, 34-24, in 2006.
Hofstra's last victory over the Huskies in Boston came in 2005, 20-17.
The Pride average 348.0 ypg and 18.56 ppg on offense and 304.0 ypg and 22.2 ppg
on defense. Junior receiver Aaron Weaver leads the Pride with 48 receptions for
606 yards and three touchdowns and is one of six Hofstra receivers in
double-digit receptions. Senior quarterback Cory Christopher boosted his streak
of games with a completion percentage above 56% to nine last week at Delaware.
He has completed 152 of 236 passes for 1,595 yards and seven touchdowns on the
season. Freshman running back Miguel Maysonet leads the ground game with 334
yards on 64 carries while sophomore quarterback Steve Probst is second with 225
yards on 48 attempts. The Hofstra defense continues to be linebacker-led by
sophomore Basim Hudeen (70 tackles), senior Luke Bonus (69 tackles) and sophomore
Greg Melendez (57 tackles).
The Huskies of Northeastern, who come into the Hofstra game with a 1-8 overall
record and a 1-5 mark in the CAA, average 270.8 ypg and 13.9 ppg on offense,
and 407.7 ypg and 37.0 ppg on defense. Junior running back John Griffin leads
the Huskies with 715 yards and two touchdowns on 151 carries. The passing game
revolves around freshman Jordan Batts, who has 45 receptions for 426 yards and
five touchdowns. Junior quarterback Alex Dulski has completed 72 of 131 passes
for 591 yards and three touchdowns while red-shirt freshman signal-caller Matt
Carroll has connected on 80 of 122 passes for 742 yards and six touchdowns. Senior
linebacker Phil Higgins leads the Northeastern defense with 75 tackles while
junior safety Darryl Jones has 60 tackles and a team-high three interceptions.
