Boston, MA - Senior Mike McCristall placed 190th in 35:41 to lead the Hofstra Pride men's cross country team to a 34th-place team finish at the 2009 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship at Franklin Park Saturday.
Running on a rain-soaked course, McCristall placed 5:06 behind meet champion Ryan Sheridan from second-place Iona College (59 points). The Orange of Syracuse captured the Northeast Regional team title by placing all five of their scoring runners in the top 17 to finish with 55 points. Providence was third with 78 points. The Pride scored 1,030 points to place tied for 34th in the 36-team field.
Sophomore Fred Shattell was Hofstra's second finisher, placing 193rd in 35:49 while freshman Kyle Wightman was 220th in 37:08. Sophomore Derek Lockwood was on Lockwood's heels in 221st-place in 37:08, a tenth of a second behind. Junior Phil Giackette was 229th in 37:22 to round out the scoring Pride while senior Robbie Wright rounded out the Hofstra runners in 244th place in 46:17.
The Pride close out their 2009 cross country season next Saturday, November 21 when they compete in the IC4A Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
