THREE PRIDE GRAPPLERS COP TITLES AT THE N.C. STATE OPEN

Raleigh, NC - Junior Ryan Patrovich and sophomores Ben Clymer and P.J. Gillespie each captured individual titles to lead the Hofstra Pride wrestling team at the North Carolina State Open Saturday night. There was no team scoring in the tournament.

Patrovich (Bohemia, NY) posted a 4-0 record at 174 pounds, recording a fall, two major decisions and a 3-1 decision over Brad Darrington from Utah Valley in the championship match. The junior pinned Josh Tuck from Newberry in 6:00 in his first match, posted a 14-3 major decision over Cameron Couch from Tennessee-Chattanooga and a 16-7 major victory over Duke's Bret Klopp in the semifinals. Patrovich is now 5-0 on the year.

Clymer (Germansville, PA) also posted a 4-0 record with four decisions at 184 pounds. The sophomore blanked Ryan Sughrue from UNC-Greensboro, 4-0, Jonathan Becker from North Carolina State, 3-1, and Jason Porter from Gardner-Webb, 7-3 before downing Andrew Saunders from UNC-Greensboro in the championship match, 2-1. Clymer is now 5-0 on the year.

Gillespie (Long Beach, NY) recorded a 5-0 mark with one pin and four decisions at 165 pounds Saturday. The 2009 CAA Rookie of the Year pinned Justin Guthrie from Gardner-Webb, downed Kasey Young from North Carolina State, 6-2, Victor Hojilla from UNC-Greensboro, 4-2, and Justin Sparrow from Citadel, 7-1 before beating Brandon Wright from Tennessee-Chattanooga, 4-1 in the title match. Gillespie is now 6-0 in 2009-10.

Red-shirt freshman Tyler Banks (Griswold, CT) notched a 4-1 record and placed second at 141 pounds. He tallied an 8-0 major decision over Chris Mullen from Duke in his first round, a 2-0 decision over Citadel's Michael Fenton, a 13-2 major win over Reiny Parrado from North Carolina State and an 8-6 win over Dale Shull from N.C. State before dropping a 5-2 decision in the title match to UNC-Greensboro's Ivan Lopouchanski. Banks is 4-2 on the year.

Sophomore Justin Accordino (Wilkes-Barre, PA) tallied a 3-0 record in the tournament but placed eighth after being injured in the semifinals. He tallied a 9-1 major decision over Daniel Helena from North Carolina, a 3-2 win over Dean Pavlou from Tennessee-Chattanooga, and a pin of Ryan Medved from Gardner-Webb in 1:30. Accordino is 3-1 on the season.

Senior Anthony Tortora (Chappaqua, NY) at 197 pounds, freshman Jamie Franco (Monroe, NY) at 125 and red-shirt freshman Paul Snyder (Greensburg, PA) at 285, each posted 2-2 records. Junior Jeff Rotella (West Windsor, NJ) was 0-2 at 133 pounds.

The Pride will return to action next Saturday, November 28 when they compete in the Northeast Duals at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. Hofstra will face Northern Colorado at 11 a.m., Virginia at 1:15 p.m. and Nebraska at 3:15 p.m.
