Hempstead, NY - Junior midfielder Tiffany Yovino (Holtsville, NY) was named a third-team Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, it was announced this week.

Yovino was named a first-team Scholar All-East Region by the NSCAA as well, while senior defender Jess Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ) was named to the Scholar All-East Region second team and junior defender Dana Bergstrom (Billerica, MA) was an honorable mention selection.

Yovino, who carries a 3.75 grade point average, had three goals and one assist for Hofstra, which finished the year 10-6-3 and 7-2-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, good for second place. She was a first-team All-CAA selection and a first-team NSCAA All-Region selection for the second year in a row. She was also one of 45 players named to the Preseason Hermann Trophy Watch List.

It is the fourth year in a row that Hofstra has had a Scholar All-America selection from the NSCAA. Last year, Crankshaw earned third-team honors after a season which saw her earn the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year honor. In 2006 and 2007, All-American defender Sue Weber was honored for her academic and athletic success by both the NSCAA and CoSIDA, which named her a first-team Academic All-American in 2007.

Bergstrom, who carries a 4.0 grade point average, was a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, and earned a spot on the NSCAA All-Region squad in her first season being eligible after transferring from Syracuse.
