Hempstead,
NY - Six former Hofstra lacrosse players and one current Pride student-athlete are
among the 25 members of the 25th Anniversary CAA Men's Lacrosse Team, the CAA
announced. As part of its 25th
Anniversary celebration in 2009-10, the CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary
teams in 21 championship sports. The teams are selected by a panel of current
and former head coaches in the conference.
The Hofstra honorees, with their years of participation, position, hometown and
honors, are:
Jay Card - Hofstra - 2007-present - Attack - Caledon,
Ontario

Received CAA Player of the Year and honorable
mention All-American honors in 2009

Selected as the CAA Rookie of the Year and
named 2nd team All-CAA in 2008

Led the CAA with 35 goals in 2009 and ranked
10th with 27 in 2008

The
CAA Silver Anniversary Men's Lacrosse team includes nine former CAA Players of
the Year and 17 All-America selections. Men's lacrosse has been a championship
sport in the CAA since 2002. Former member Loyola won the first CAA
championship in 2002 before Towson reeled off three consecutive titles from
2003-2005. Hofstra claimed the CAA crown in 2006 and 2008, while Delaware took
home the league title in 2007 and Villanova won the championship in 2009.
The
conference has had multiple teams selected to participate in the NCAA Men's
Lacrosse Championship in four of the past eight years. Delaware advanced to the
Final Four of the NCAA Championship in 2007 after knocking off 2nd-seeded
Virginia and UMBC. Towson reached the quarterfinals in 2003 and Hofstra made
the quarterfinals in 2006 after tying an NCAA record with 17 victories.
