2/1/2010 6:28:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will take on Rider on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. at the Mack Sports Complex as part of Bracket Buster Weekend, it was announced today.

Hofstra is undefeated on Bracket Buster Weekend in its first four years of participating in the event, including wins over three other schools in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC): Siena in 2005-06, Iona in 2007-08 and Fairfield in 2008-09. The Pride's other match-up was a home win over Holy Cross on ESPNU in 2006-07.

Rider is 13-11 on the year, including a season-opening 88-74 victory over nationally ranked Mississippi State back on Nov. 13. The Broncs are 6-6 in the MAAC, but have won their last three conference games, including an 88-80 win at Fairfield on Saturday. Hofstra defeated Fairfield 84-80 at the Mack Sports Complex back on Nov. 30.

Senior guard Ryan Thompson, the younger brother of Rider alum and NBA lottery pick Jason Thompson (Sacramento Kings), leads the Broncs with 15.6 points per game this season. Thompson has been playing well of late with 31 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday's win over Fairfield, after tallying 25 points and nine rebounds in a 74-71 win over Manhattan on Wednesday. Rider also won at Manhattan 65-64 on January 4, while the Pride defeated the Jaspers 44-39 at the Mack Sports Complex on Dec. 9.

Hofstra has a pivotal stretch of Colonial Athletic Association games before facing Rider, beginning with Wednesday's road game at James Madison at 7 p.m. The Hofstra-Rider game will not be televised.
