FULLER LOOKS FOR BLOCKS RECORD AS HOFSTRA HEADS TO GEORGE MASON

2/3/2010 3:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Basketball team will finish its current three-game road trip on Thursday when the Pride travels to George Mason to take on the Patriots at 7 p.m.  The game will air on a tape-delay basis on Verizon FiOS1.

It will be the first of two match-ups this season with George Mason as the two squads will face each other in Hempstead on February 18.

Senior center Jess Fuller will look to take sole control of the all-time blocks record at Hofstra as the Queens, NY native currently is tied for the top spot in school history at 175 career blocks with Vanessa Gidden (2003-07).  Fuller, who had two blocks at Old Dominion on Sunday and tied the mark with slightly over seven minutes left in the contest, already owns the top two single season marks in school history with 97 last season and 70 through 21 games this year.

In its last game on Sunday, Hofstra dropped a tough 51-46 decision to Old Dominion despite 18 points and eight rebounds from freshman forward Shante Evans.  That game came on the heels of the Pride's exciting 69-62 overtime win over James Madison last Thursday.  It was Hofstra's first win in Harrisonburg since the 2003-04 season and Hofstra got a strong effort from senior guard Sam Brigham, who tied her season-high with 19 points.

Evans leads Hofstra in scoring and rebounding with averages of 13.3 and 9.0, respectively.  Her nine rebounds a game and her nine double-doubles both lead the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).  Brigham is the only other member of the Pride in double figures for the season as she averages 10.2 points per game.  Fuller is third in scoring (8.9 ppg), second in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and leads Hofstra with 70 blocks.

George Mason is currently 8-12 overall and 1-8 in CAA play, including a 70-57 loss at Northeastern in its last game.  Brittany Poindexter leads the Patriots with 12.4 points per game, while Amber Easter is second with 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per outing.

Following Thursday's tilt with the Patriots Hofstra will be home for three of its next four games beginning with Sunday's 1 p.m. game against UNC Wilmington.
