PRIDE TRAVEL TO BINGHAMTON AND #7 CORNELL SATURDAY

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Wrestling team returns to action on Saturday, February 6 when they travel to upstate New York to face CAA-foe Binghamton University at Noon before heading to Ithaca to square off against the seventh-ranked Big Red of Cornell University at 5 p.m.

The Pride, 5-8-2 on the season, is coming off a 31-12 loss to Penn last Sunday (January 31) at the Mack Sports Complex. Hofstra has dropped its last three dual matches but has won three of its last six contests. Hofstra has two wrestlers ranked by InterMat in the top 20 of their respective weight classes this week. Pride senior Jonny Bonilla-Bowman (12-3) is ranked 16th in the nation at 157 pounds while sophomore P.J. Gillespie (25-10) is ranked 17th at 165 pounds this week. Sophomore, 184-pounder Ben Clymer, who returns to action this week after missing the Pride's last match against Pennsylvania last Sunday, is 20-4 on the season including a perfect 14-0 in dual matches. Bonilla-Bowman and Clymer are ranked number one in their respective weight classes in the CAA while Gillespie is second. Hofstra is 9-1 all-time against Binghamton and 4-11 all-time against Cornell,

The Bearcats of Binghamton University enter Saturday's match with an 11-6-1 dual match record and are coming off victories over Ithaca (35-3) and Boston University (38-6) last Sunday. Binghamton, which is ranked third in the most recent CAA Wrestling Rankings with nine wrestlers ranked in the conference and 31 points, has defeated Davidson (50-0), Appalachian State (28-16), North Carolina (18-16), Northern Colorado (28-14), USMMA (35-10), Princeton (28-15), Liberty (25-15), Drexel (25-15), Sacred Heart (35-7), Ithaca and Boston University. Their losses have come against #24 Michigan State (20-12), #8 Nebraska (27-12), Buffalo (19-16), Penn (24-13), Rider (18-15) and American (21-16). The Bearcats' tie came against #25 Old Dominion, 17-17, in the CAA Duals.

Binghamton is led by senior Josh Patterson, who is ranked first in the CAA and 13th in the country at 174 pounds by InterMat with a 20-5 record. Junior Anwar Goeres is also ranked first in the CAA at 141 pounds with a 27-6 record. Red-shirt freshman Donnie Vinson is ranked second in the CAA at 149 pounds with a 26-10 mark. Senior Corey Waite (30-13) and sophomore Justin Lister (22-7) are ranked third in the conference at 285 and 157, respectively.

The Big Red of Cornell is ranked seventh in the country with a 3-4-1 record. Cornell has defeated #18 Wisconsin (24-11), #17 Missouri (23-15) and #8 Maryland (19-15). Their losses have come against #10 Maryland (18-17), #3 Ohio State (27-14), #9 Boise State (20-19) and, most recently #2 Iowa State (24-13) last Sunday. Their tie came against #9 Lehigh (15-15). Cornell will face Ivy League opponent, Columbia, at 2 p.m. prior to the Hofstra match

Cornell has six wrestlers nationally ranked with freshman Kyle Dake (22-2) and returning All-American Mack Lewnes (26-0) leading the country at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively. Senior Troy Nickerson (6-1) is ranked second at 125 pounds while sophomore Cam Simaz (27-5) is ranked fifth at 197. The Big Red returns five All-Americans and seven NCAA qualifiers into the opening weekend of Ivy League dual meet competition as Cornell eyes its seventh straight Ancient Eight title.
