Harrisonburg, VA - The #16 Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team had three players named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) first team, it was announced this evening at the awards banquet prior to the start of the conference championship at James Madison University.
Senior attack Liz Falco, senior midfielder Corrine Gandolfi and junior defender Katie Hertsch all garnered first team all-conference accolades for Hofstra, which will open tournament play Thursday when they take on Towson in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m.
Hofstra also had three other players earn awards from the conference as senior midfielder K'Leigh Vanaman was named to the All-CAA second team, while freshman defender Emily Corzel and freshman midfielder Jill Maier were both named to the CAA All-Rookie squad.
Falco flourished in her senior season with the Pride as she is currently second on the team in scoring with 40 points on 27 goals and 13 assists. She ranks second in goals and is tied for second in assists, while also contributing 19 draw controls, 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.Â
One of the all-time greats to suit up for the Pride, Gandolfi leads Hofstra in every statistical category this season with 46 goals, 19 assists, 65 points, 58 draw controls, 38 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. She is the only player in the nation to lead her team in every statistical category (no ties/no goalie numbers). Gandolfi is one of just four players in program history to reach 200 career points as she has 203 heading into the conference tournament.
The Pride's top defender, Hertsch has been a stalwart on defense all season for Hofstra. Hertsch is second on the squad in both ground balls and caused turnovers with 33 and 18, respectively. She has also added 31 draw controls, which ranks third on the team.
Vanaman has been stellar in her final season in a Pride uniform. Playing in all 16 games, she has delivered 25 goals and 13 assists for 38 points on offense. She ranks third on the team in all three categories. Vanaman has assisted the Pride in all facets of the game this season as well as she also has 39 draw controls, 27 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. She is second in draw controls and third in ground balls and caused turnovers.
Maier was one of the Pride's top scoring threats all season as she posted 19 goals, eight assists and 27 points in 16 games. She ranked fourth in points and goals, while also adding in 16 draw controls, nine ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Corzel came on late to help the Pride advance to the conference tournament. A starter on defense, she chipped in with 14 ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls in 15 games this year.Â
Hofstra finished the regular season with an 11-5 overall record and a conference mark of 5-2.
