Pride second baseman Matt Prokopowicz
and outfielder/first
baseman Ethan Paquette
have been named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Baseball Second Team it was announced today. The teams were selected in vote
of the ECAC head coaches.
Paquette (West
Burke, VT), who was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 35th round of last week's Major League Baseball Draft, excelled in his first season with
the Pride after transferring from Vermont following the discontinuation
of the
Catamounts program.
Paquette split time between first base and right field in 2010 and hit
.371
with a team-leading 76 hits, 19 doubles, 14 home runs and a school-record 70 RBIs was named to the second team at the utility position. He was also a first team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection.
Prokopowicz
(Massapequa, NY) hit a career-best .431 in 2010
with 18 doubles, six home runs and 41 RBIs. The Pride's leadoff hitter
also
scored a team-best 47 runs. Prokopowicz, who finished his career as
Hofstra's
all-time hits leader with 271, was also a first team All-CAA selection.
Hofstra finished the
2010 season with a 20-28-1 record, a
nine-win improvement over the 2009 season.
George Mason
shortstop Ryan Soares was named the ECAC Player
of the Year, while Virginia pitcher Danny Hultzen earned Pitcher of
the
Year accolades. St. John's outfielder Jeremy Baltz
was the ECAC Rookie of the Year, while Connecticut Coach Jim Penders earned ECAC Coach of the Year honors.
The ECAC is the nation's largest athletic and the only multi-divisional conference with approximately 300 Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. Established in 1938, the ECAC, a non-profit service organization, sponsors nearly 100 championships in 37 men's and women's sports.
