Hempstead, NY - Former Hofstra women's lacrosse student-athlete Corrine Gandolfi and rising senior Katie Hertsch were named to the United States Women's National Team, it was announced yesterday by the organization.
It is the second straight year that Gandolfi has been named to the national team as she was a member of the 2009-10 United States Developmental Team, while Hertsch is a first-time member of the squad.
In June, Gandolfi became only the fourth player in program history to earn All-American honors twice in their careers as she was a third team Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) selection in both 2009 and 2010.
Gandolfi, a first team IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region and All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) performer in 2010, led Hofstra in every statistical category in 2010. She compiled 49 goals, 22 assists, 71 points, 41 ground balls, 61 draw controls and 30 caused turnovers. She left her mark throughout the Hofstra record books as her 148 career goals ranks third all-time, while her 61 assists is fourth and her 209 points is third all-time. She is just the fourth player in program history to reach 200 career points.
Hertsch, also a IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region and All-CAA first team selection, was Hofstra's top defender all season. She was second on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with 34 and 18, respectively, while also adding 31 draw controls. Hertsch now has 105 career ground balls, 48 caused turnovers and 82 draw controls. She ranks in the top ten all-time in all three categories and will look to become only the fifth player in program history to record at least 100 ground balls and draw controls in their careers when she returns next season.
The Pride finished the 2010 campaign with a record of 12-6, advancing to the CAA Championship game for the first time since 2007. Hofstra had three victories over nationally-ranked teams this year and all of their losses came against teams ranked in the top 11 in the nation at the time of the contest. Hofstra was ranked 15th in the nation in the final IWLCA/Under Armour Coaches Poll released on June 11.
