8/25/2010 4:58:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Women's Soccer team was ranked fourth in the first 2010 NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional poll, which was released today.

Dayton was ranked first in the poll after opening the season with a pair of wins over the weekend, while James Madison and Charlotte were ranked second and third, respectively.

Four Colonial Athletic Association teams were ranked overall, including James Madison, Hofstra, William & Mary (fifth) and Northeastern (tenth). The Pride also plays seventh-ranked Fordham and ninth-ranked Princeton in non-conference action this season.

The Pride will put its regional ranking to a stiff test in its season opener on Friday, when it faces Boston College, which is ranked seventh in the nation. Boston College opened its season with a 1-1 tie with No. 2 Stanford on Friday.

Hofstra will be playing its season opener after defeating Marist 3-0 in an exhibition game on Saturday at Centre Island Beach Park in Bayville. Junior forward Laura Greene (Holbrook, NY) had a goal and an assist in that contest, while senior forward Kayla Pifer (State College, PA) and redshirt freshman forward Krysti Rodriguez (Ashburn, VA) added goals as well.

Hofstra and Boston College will be meeting for the first time on Friday, with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. in Newton, Mass.
