Hempstead, NY - Sophomore middle blocker Carolyn Jenkins earned all-tournament honors at the Hofstra/Asics Invitational after leading the Pride with nine kills in Hofstra's three-set loss (25-12, 25-14, 25-17) to Missouri State on Saturday evening at the Physical Education Building.
The loss drops Hofstra's record to 0-3 this season, while the Bears improved to 3-0 and captured the tournament title with the win over the Pride.
Missouri State would take the first two sets of the match as they held the Pride to a negative .207 hitting percentage in the first stanza en route to a 25-12 win. The Bears combined for 12 blocks on their way to the 13-point victory.
In the second set, Hofstra picked up its play before falling 25-14. Jenkins led Hofstra with three kills in the second set, matching her total from the first set.
In the final set, a kill from senior setter Rachel August allowed the Pride to close the gap to 10-8 early on but Missouri State scored four of the next five points in the stanza to push the lead to 14-9 following a Pride attack error.
Hofstra would cut the deficit to two later in the set, but were unable to get any closer than that as the Bears won the final set, 25-17.
Sophomore libero Kylee Maneja picked up 11 digs for Hofstra, while August dished out 12 assists for the Pride.
For Missouri State, Calli Norman had five kills and six blocks, while Cara Hackmann tallied six kills, five digs and three blocks.
Hofstra returns to action on Wednesday when they host Iona at 7 p.m.
