9/4/2010 11:51:00 PM

Huntington, WV - The Hofstra Volleyball team rallied from a two sets to one deficit en route to a thrilling five-set win over High Point in the squad's final match at the Thunder Invitational Tourney at Marshall.

The five-set win came on the heels of Hofstra's tough five-set loss to host Marshall last night and was the Pride's first five-set win of the young season.

Hofstra won the match by scores of 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 25-15 and 15-13.

Sophomore middle blocker Carolyn Jenkins notched a match and season-high 18 kills for the Pride, while also tallying a match-high five blocks.

Hofstra also got its first two double-doubles of the season as redshirt freshman outside hitter Nikki Kinnier had 12 kills and 15 kills, while senior setter Rachel August tallied 42 assists and 12 digs.

The Pride won the first set by the close margin, 25-23, before High Point roared back and won the next two sets to take the 2-1 lead in the match.

In the fourth set, Hofstra broke a 9-all tie with a 9-3 run to take a commanding 18-12 victory and they would go on to cruise to the 25-15 victory.  The Pride would close the set with a service ace from senior defensive specialist Jenna Connell followed by a kill from freshman outside hitter Shelby Young

Hofstra would need another rally in the final set as High Point led 13-9 following a Pride attack error before Hofstra mounted its comeback.  A kill from Jenkins would get Hofstra started and in all the Pride would close the game on a 6-0 run as Kinnier ended the match to give Hofstra the victory.

Sophomore libero Kylee Maneja had another strong match for the Pride as she picked up a match-high 26 digs.

Megan Smith had 18 kills and 13 digs for High Point.

Hofstra is next in action on Wednesday when they travel to local rival St. John's for the 9th Annual Queens-Nassau Cup Match.  First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
