Hempstead, NY - Hofstra
junior midfielder Genna Kovar has been named the Colonial Athletic Association
Field Hockey Player of the Week for the period ending September 6, the CAA
announced Tuesday.
Kovar, a native of Hampton Bays, New York, recorded six goals and added one
assist to lead the Pride to two victories at home over the weekend. In Saturday's
contest against the University of Vermont, Kovar scored the first two goals of
the game and assisted on the third by junior Darrah Rachman-all in the first
half-in Hofstra's 3-1 victory over the Catamounts.
On Sunday against Sacred Heart, Kovar, who was a 2009 NFHCA All-America third
team selection, recorded a career-best four goals in the Pride's 7-2 victory
over the Pioneers at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. She posted one goal-the
Pride's third of the contest-in the first half, and three in the second half. Kovar's final goal of the game was the 26th of
her Hofstra career, which tied her with Brit Blankmeyer (2005-08) and Pemba
Ramdoo (2004-07) for sixth place on the Pride's all-time career goals list. Next
up on the list is Kara McEneaney (2003-06) with 27 career goals.
Kovar and the Pride
return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 8) when they travel into New York City to
face the Lions of Columbia University at the Baker Athletic Complex. Game time is 3 p.m.
