Hempstead, NY - The “We are Hofstra…We are Leaders” program recognizes the all-around success of select Hofstra University student-athletes.   The key criteria includes excellence in academics, leadership and dedication in athletics, a commitment to community service, and the extent to which they serve as a role model for their peers.

Laura Greene is a senior on the Women's Soccer from Holbrook, NY and has taken the leadership position on her team this year.  As of her last competition, Laura continues to lead the Pride in scoring with 11 goals and assists for 23 points. She has now moved past former teammate and current assistant coach Tiffany Yovino into a sixth place tie on the Pride's all-time goal scoring list. When asked if she has been able to meet any influential people, she said “My teammates and coaches have influenced me the most while I have been here at Hofstra.  They have always pushed me and everyone else around them to reach their full potential.  I couldn't ask to be surrounded by a better group of people.”

QUESTION: Why did you choose to attend Hofstra University?
LAURA GREENE:
I chose Hofstra because the reputation of its education department and the level of the soccer program.

LAURA:
Choosing elementary education as my major was an easy decision for me because I have always loved working with children and to have the satisfaction of sharing my knowledge with them is extremely fulfilling.

Q: What has it meant to be a member of the Hofstra women's soccer team and to play for Coach Simon Riddiough?

LAURA: Being a part of Hofstra's soccer team has been a wonderful experience for me.  I'm lucky to have been given the opportunity to play with such great teammates and to play for a coach like Simon.

Q: What has been your most memorable athletic achievement?

LAURA: I think my most memorable athletic achievement was the amazing season we had last year.  Our team's 18-game winning streak can't really compare to anything else we have accomplished so far.

Q: What is your definition of a leader?

LAURA: I believe that a leader is someone who can motivate the people around them either vocally or by example.

Q: What kinds of aspirations do you have for playing at the next level, if any?
LAURA:
I haven't put much thought into playing at the next level yet.  I am just focusing on this season right now.

Q: What are your plans for after graduation?
LAURA:
After graduation I plan to go to graduate school to get my masters in elementary education.

Q: What does it take to be a successful student while competing as a Division I student-athlete?
LAURA:
Being a successful student while competing as a Division I athlete can be overwhelming at times.  Since we spend a lot of time traveling, competing and at practices, which other students don't have to do, time management and communicating with your professors is very important.

Q: What piece of advice do you have for incoming student-athletes?
LAURA:
I would advise incoming student-athletes to work as hard as they can on their school work and athletics.  You want to make sure that you did the best that you could have because your time here flies by.

Q: What are your interests outside of your sport?

LAURA: Outside of soccer, I love going to the beach and I try to spend time with my family and friends as much as I can.
