Lawrenceville, NJ - Hofstra freshman Jermaine John has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie Wrestler of the Week for the period ending January 9, the CAA announced Tuesday.
John, a native of Brooklyn, New York and a graduate of Bethpage High School on Long Island, recorded a 9-4 victory over Drexel senior Alex Rinaldi in the Pride's 19-15 victory Sunday. The 174-pounder allowed Rinaldi only four escapes while posting his fourth win of the season.
John was a four-year letterman at Bethpage High School and was an All-New York State selection with a fifth place finish at 160-pounds in the 2011 State Championships. He recorded a 45-3 record as a senior. John, a two-year team captain, was three-time All-Nassau County selection, and county and league champion as a senior. His overall scholastic record was 125-18.
John and the Pride return to action on Sunday, January 15 when they host the Golden Bears of Kutztown University on Youth Wrestling Day at the Mack Sports Complex.
