Richmond, Va. - Senior guard Mike Moore earned All-Colonial Athletic Association second-team honors, the league announced on
Thursday night at the awards banquet.
George Mason's Ryan Pearson was named the league's Player
of the Year. Also receiving top honors were Drexel's Bruiser Flint as the CAA Coach of the Year, Drexel freshman
guard Damion Lee as the Rookie
of the Year and Old Dominion senior guard Kent Bazemore as the Defensive Player of the Year.
Moore ended the regular season as the CAA's leading scorer, averaging 20 points per game. Through 31
contests, the veteran shooting guard has 621 points, making him the only player
in the conference to surpass the 600-point mark this season. Joining Moore on
the second team is ODU senior forward Chris
Cooper (10.6 ppg/10.3 rpg), Drexel senior forward Samme Givens (11.7 ppg/7.8
rpg), Delaware junior forward Jamelle Hagins (12.7 ppg/11.3 rpg) and Delaware
sophomore guard Devon Saddler (18.7 ppg/4.1 rpg).
Saddler is the conference's No.
2 scorer with 18.7 points per game, but in the two games that Hofstra and
Delaware have opposed each other this season, Moore out-scored Saddler by a
40-18 margin. On Feb. 14, Moore scored a team-high 16
points compared to Saddler's four points on Feb. 14. Saddler did not make a
field goal in six attempts while Moore went 5-for-16, including a pair of
three-pointers. At ODU on Jan. 14, Moore out-scored ODU all-first teamer Kent
Bazemore, 21-16, and scored more than Cooper's 13 points.
The Pride also took home additional
individual honors. Senior guard Dwan McMillan was named to the CAA All-Academic
first team and junior forward Matt Grogan was a CAA All-Academic honorable mention.
Eleventh-seeded Hofstra will
face sixth-seeded Georgia State on Friday in the first round of the CAA
Tournament with an 8:30 p.m. start at Richmond Coliseum.
