Newark, DE - John Tiedemann pitched eight innings of shutout ball, allowing just three hits as Hofstra won its fourth consecutive game, 4-0, over Delaware Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. The win clinched the series for the Pride and moved Hofstra into second place in the CAA standings.

Hofstra improves to 24-17 on the year, 13-7 in the CAA. Delaware's loss drops it under .500 at 20-21 overall and 11-9 in the CAA. The shutout was Hofstra's third of the season.

The Pride scored three times in the first off Blue Hens starter Corey Crispell. Dalton Rouleau led off the game and reached on an error. Danny Poma then walked. Matt Ford grounded out to first, moving Rouleau and Poma up a base. Jared Hammer drove both runners home with a double to right. Three batters later, Bryan Verbitsky delivered a run-scoring single to left that plated Hammer with the third run of the inning.

Hofstra added a run in the ninth as Poma doubled, his 24th of the season, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on an infield single by Ford. The double by Poma set a new school single season record, breaking the old mark of 23 set by Josh Stewart in 2005.

Tiedemann did not allow a base runner past second base in the game as he improved to 5-3 on the season. He struck out seven and walked two before giving way to Verbitsky to start the ninth. The sophomore gave up three singles in the inning but escaped without giving up a run.

Crispell (4-3) allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits in seven innings of work.

Ford, Hammer and Kevin Flynn were the only Pride players with two hits on the day.

The series concludes Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
