Hempstead, NY - Stevie Mejia scored 16 points, had eight rebounds and five steals, while David Imes added 13 points and Jordan Allen chipped in 10 points to lead Hofstra to a 78-47 exhibition win over Queens College on Saturday evening.

The first half was all Hofstra as it shot 47-percent from the floor (18-38) in building a 44-20 lead at the half. Queens shot just 25-percent in the opening 20 minutes, converting just seven of 28 shots. The Pride snapped a 2-2 tie on an Imes three-pointer 50 seconds into the game and never looked back. That basket would key a 21-6 run that gave the Pride a 23-8 lead on a jumper by Kentrell Washington with 13:42 remaining. The Pride would take its largest lead of the half, 42-18, with 1:29 to go on Allen's jumper. The Pride would match that advantage at the half as Darren Payen hit a jumper with 29 seconds left to give the Pride a 44-20 edge.

Hofstra used its size advantage to grab 12 offensive rebounds in the first half and turned them into 15 second chance points. The Pride also held a 20-10 advantage in points in the paint and a 12-2 edge in bench points in the opening stanza.

The Pride controlled the second half as well, outscoring Queens, 34-27, in the final 20 minutes. Hofstra's shooting cooled in the second half to 38-percent (12-32), but Queens managed to shoot just 28-percent (10-36) in the half and could not make up its first half deficit.

Nine of 10 players to see action for the Pride scored. In addition to the three players in double-figures, Washington and Dallas Anglin posted nine points each. Jimmy Hall had seven points and Payen and Moussa Kone each had six points. Stephen Nwaukoni had a team-high nine rebounds.

Hofstra held a 56-39 rebounding edge in the contest and finished with 22 second chance points.

The Knights were led by Patrick Parker, who scored a game-high 20 points. Daniel Watson grabbed nine rebounds.

Hofstra opens the 2012-13 season Friday, November 9 at Monmouth.
