Hempstead, N.Y. - Freshman Asia Jackson tallied a season-high 20 points and senior Shante Evans added 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead four Pride players in double-figures as Hofstra defeated Norfolk State, 82-47 in a non-conference game at the Mack Sports Complex Thursday night. The Pride won its third straight to improve to 4-7 while the Spartans dropped their third contest to fall to 2-11.

In addition to her 20 points, which topped a 13-point performance against Stetson in the season opener, Jackson notched seven steals and five assists , which were also season highs. Evans, who now has 1,808 career points, is just 33 points away from breaking the Hofstra all-time career points record held by Dia LaBella, who tallied 1,840 points form 1978-82.

Evans also notched her sixth double-double of the season and the 56th of her career. Seniors Deven Green and Candace Bond each added 10 points in the Pride's winning effort. The Pride shot 52 percent from the field, connecting on 30-of-58 field goals.

The 35-point Hofstra victory is the largest margin of victory for the Pride since a 72-29 win at Boston University on January 4, 2000.The Spartans were led by senior Recca Trice with nine points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals while junior Aivah Parham also posted nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior Batavia Owens grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. The Spartans shot 29 percent from the field, hitting on 20 of 68 shots.

In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, Hofstra came out and scored the first nine points of the contest with Jackson's three-pointer ending the early Pride run at the 16:44 mark. Norfolk State senior Batavia Owens put the Spartans on the board with a jumper 29 seconds later.

But the Pride scored the next six points as part of a 20-8 run over the ensuing 5:58 with Bond, Evans and Payton each scoring six points in the spurt to take a 29-10 lead with 9:59 to play following Evans' lay-up. Spartan freshman Janel Cannon hit a jumper 29 seconds later as NSU would scored eight of the next 13 points to close to 34-18 with 3:20 to play in the period following a Trice jumper.

Pride sophomore Andreana Thomas then hit a jumper 18 seconds later to start a 13-0 run and closed the spurt with a jumper with two seconds remaining to close the half and give Hofstra its biggest lead to that point at 47-18 at the break. Thomas tallied six points and five assists along with two steals.

The Pride, who hit on 19-of-38 field goals in the first half, tallied 22 points in the paint and received 18 points off the bench including six by Annie Payton. Evans led the first half scoring with 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Jackson had 10 points and four steals in the first 20 minutes.
