Atlanta, Ga. - Senior forward Shante Evans scored 19 points and added 11 rebounds while becoming the first player in program history to score 2,000 career points as Hofstra defeated Georgia State, 72-59, in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Sunday afternoon at GSU Sports Arena.

Junior  guard Annie Payton connected on a pair three-pointers in compiling 12 points and junior forward Anma Onyeuku added 14 points to help Hofstra win for the second time in three games as the Pride improved to 11-11 overall and 7-4 in CAA play.

Sophomore guard Andreana Thomas fell just one assist shy of Hofstra's single-game record, finishing with 13 helpers, eight points and five rebounds in a team-high 34 minutes. Freshman Asia Jackson scored nine points off the bench.

Ashley Watson notched a game-high 20 points and Kendra Long chipped in 18 for Georgia State, though the Panthers fell to 11-11 and 3-8 in CAA play. Hofstra swept the regular season series between the schools after posting a 64-63 home win over the Panthers on Jan. 10.

Onyeuku, who entered leading the league in field goal percentage, shot 6-for-10 to finish in double figures for the ninth straight game. The Fayetteville, Ga. native played well in front of her family and hometown fans, adding six rebounds and two blocks. Senior forward Candace Bond registered five points, five rebounds and five steals.

Evans, who already holds the program's career points and rebounding record, became the first Hofstra women's basketball player to score 2,000 career points when she scored off a layup with 56.7 seconds left. Evans picked up her 64th career double-double, which leads all active players. The West Chester, Pa. native has 14 double-doubles on the season.

Evans is now one of just seven players in CAA history to reach the 2,000-point milestone and one of two active players, joining Delaware's Elena Delle Donne. Evans will now look to surpass Courtney Hurt (VCU; 2008-12) for sixth on the all-time league leaderboard at 2,092 points. Evans has 2,001.

With her first free throw 2:33 into the second half ,Evans also recorded her 500th career made free throw, which also made her one of seven CAA players to reach that level. Bond also reached a milestone, notching  five steals to move past Kate Gordon's mark of 272 steals for the second-most in Hofstra history. Bond, the CAA leader in steals, now has 275 swipes, trailing only Denee Rivera's program record of 329.

Payton, in her first start since Dec. 9 at Auburn, shot 5-for-9 along with three points and three assists..  Payton's fast-break layup made it 45-35 with 15:48, forcing a Georgia State timeout. An up-tempo offense helped Hofstra keep the momentum with Onyeuku scoring on another transition layup for a 52-39 edge with 11:47 left.

Watson cut Hofstra's lead to 10 points on a driving layup but Bond responded with a three-point play on the other end for a 61-48 lead with almost six minutes left.

Onyeuku then buried a right-corner three-pointer opposite of the Hofstra bench for a 66-53 edge to prevent any hopes of a Georgia State comeback.

Hofstra made eight three-pointers total, matching a season-high set previously at Marist on Nov. 28. The Pride, which entered with only three games of making six-or-more three-pointers in games this season, connected on six in the opening half alone to take a 36-31 lead at the break.

Four Pride players scored six or more points in a balanced opening half. Hofstra surged to an 11-3 start, prompting a Georgia State timeout after which the Panthers substituted its entire starting lineup. The Pride then extended its lead to 22-9 at 12 minutes in.

Georgia State cut the deficit with a late run thanks to 10 points by Watson and 13 from Long in the first 20 minutes. Long hit a three-pointer with less than four seconds left before the period's end, leaving Hofstra up five heading into the locker room.

Georgia State wore pink uniforms and Hofstra sported pink socks in honor of the Think Pink/Play4Kay promotion that aims to raise money for and awareness of breast cancer and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Hofstra will now play three of the next five games at home, starting with What I Want To Be Day on Thursday when the Pride plays Drexel in a special noon start at the Mack Sports Complex.
