Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Pride baseball team will look to
break into the win column when it travels west to Bakersfield, California, for
a four-game series against the Roadrunners of CSU Bakersfield. The teams will
play a single game Friday night, a doubleheader Saturday and a single game
Sunday. The trip marks Hofstra's first-ever visit to California and its first
games against a team from The Golden State.
Hofstra (0-4) is coming off a sweep at the hands of #14
Oklahoma last weekend. The Pride was in all four contests, losing two one-run
games and a third on a ninth-inning home run. CSU Bakersfield enters the
weekend with a 2-1 record after opening the year with wins over Nebraska (9-4)
and USC (9-4) before a loss to #22 Cal State Fullerton (8-2).
Through four games Hofstra is led by senior outfielder
Austin Nyman, who is batting .294 with four RBIs. Junior outfielder Kenny Jackson is batting .250 with a home run and two RBIs. The Roadrunner offense is
paced by Tyler Shyrock, who is batting a .538 with a triple and two RBIs. Dylan
Christensen has a .385 average and three RBIs, while Cael Brockmeyer has a .364
average and five RBIs.
