4/3/2013 11:12:00 AM

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team, which won six games during its non-conference slate, will open Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play this weekend when it travels to Old Dominion and William & Mary.

The Pride will take on the Lady Monarchs on Friday at 7 p.m. in Norfolk, VA before closing the weekend on Sunday in Williamsburg, VA at William & Mary at 1 p.m.

Hofstra (6-4) will look to get off to a strong start in conference action this weekend before returning home for three straight CAA contests.

Hofstra enters this weekend's contests having won two of its last three games, with its lone setback being a narrow 11-10 overtime loss at Ohio State this past Saturday. The wins during the three-game stretch have come against Quinnipiac (12-8 on 3/17) and Temple (8-5 on 3/21).

A pair of Pride players have clearly cemented their roles as the leaders on the field for Hofstra this season through 10 games.

Offensively, sophomore Brittain Altomare is the Pride's top scoring threat as she can influence the game in a multitude of ways. She leads Hofstra in goals (20), assists (20 and points (40), while also contributing 16 draw controls, 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers. She is coming off a five-point performance (3 G, 2 A) against the Buckeyes.

The other player who has established herself as one of Hofstra's best players this season is sophomore defender April Iannetta. The second year player, who moved to defense this season, is leaving her mark in every statistical category this season. Iannetta lads Hofstra in draw controls (31) and caused turnovers (20), while ranking second in ground balls (20). She is also sixth in scoring with nine points on seven goals and two assists. Iannetta established new career-highs with seven draw controls and five ground balls at Ohio State.

Hofstra played one-goal games against both Old Dominion and William & Mary last season. The Pride defeated ODU, 9-8, in 2012 and dropped a tough 8-7 overtime decision to the Tribe last season. Both all-time series are in Hofstra's favor with the Pride holding a 8-5 lead against the Lady Monarchs and a 7-5 lead against William & Mary.

Old Dominion is 3-8 overall this season and 1-0 in conference play. They opened CAA play back in February as they defeated William & Mary, 15-9, on February 26. ODU is currently in the midst of a four-game losing skid, including a 10-9 loss to Oregon on Saturday.

William & Mary is 3-7 and 0-1 in league action. The Tribe has split its last two games, defeating Richmond, 12-11, on March 23 before falling to Longwood, 12-10, on March 30.
