West Long Branch, NJ – Frank Trimarco went eight innings and Monmouth scored four times in the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie as Monmouth defeated Hofstra, 5-1, Tuesday afternoon at the MU Baseball Field.

The Hawks improved to 17-11 with the win, while the Pride fell to 14-19 with their third straight loss.

Trimarco (2-0), who was making his first career start, allowed just one run on nine hits and a walk over eight innings.

The Pride manufactured a run in the third to take the early 1-0 lead. Kevin Brantley led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from TJ Ehrsam. Austin Nyman reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners and then on a double steal attempt, Nyman was intentionally caught in a rundown and tagged out which allowed Brantley to score on the play.

Monmouth came back to tie the score in the fifth as Joe Bamford led off with a single and moved to third on a wild pitch and then a passed ball. Craig Sweeney followed with a single to knock in the run. Pride starter Jared Rogers (1-4) got out of the inning by getting a double play grounder from Jon Guida and then striking out Dan Shea.

But the Hawks pulled ahead in the sixth inning, scoring four times. Rogers gave up a two-out single to Jake Gronsky and moved to third on a ground rule double from Chris Perret. After an intentional walk to Owen Stewart loaded the bases, Bamford singled through the right side to score both runs and give Monmouth a 3-1 lead. Bamford and Stewart pulled a page from Hofstra's playbook and scored on a double steal to make it a 4-1 game. Bamford went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Sweeney's infield single to score the final run.

Rogers was charged with five runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out three. Dave Jesch went the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed no runs and two hits.

Brent Hall and Brantley each had two hits to lead the Pride offense.
