Newark, DE – Sophomore attack Brittain Altomare had two goals for Hofstra, but Delaware rallied from 5-4 second half deficit as they went on to defeat the Pride, 7-5, on Sunday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
Hofstra falls to 9-7 and 3-3 in league play with the loss, while Delaware improves to 10-6 and 4-3 in conference action.
Freshman midfielder/attack Becky Conto had a team-best three draw controls for Hofstra, while sophomore defender April Iannetta notched three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
A tight first half would see the two teams engaged in a four-all tie at the break. Delaware scored the game's first two goals before Altomare got the Pride on the board off an assist from senior midfielder Maryann Miller with 17:52 showing on the clock.
A goal from junior attack Julia Riemer at the 16:10 mark would knot the score before another tally from Altomare 1:19 later would conclude a 3-0 scoring run for the Pride and give Hofstra its first lead of the game at 3-2.
Caitlin McCartney evened the score at three for the Blue Hens before Iannetta once again gave Hofstra an advantage at the 4:08 mark. The two teams would go into the intermission tied at four as Chelsea Fay scored for Delaware with 1:07 remaining.
The second half got started with Hofstra breaking the tie score as senior midfielder Emily von Hollen scored an unassisted goal for the Pride with 28:22 on the clock.
That would be the Pride's last lead of the game as Delaware stormed back and scored the final three goals of the contest to capture the 7-5 victory.
Kara Dattellas scored back-to-back goals to give Delaware the lead for good at 6-5, the last coming at the 22:42 mark before Allison Hahn added an insurance goal with 5:15 to play to account for the final score.
Fay and Dattellas led Delaware with two goals, while Alex Zaugra made six saves to earn the win for Delaware.
Sophomore goalie Kelsey Gregerson had seven saves for Hofstra.
Hofstra closes the regular season next Saturday (April 27) when it hosts Drexel at 4 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's lacrosse team as they will host Penn State at 7 p.m. For ticket information to both contests call (516) HOF-TIXX.
