Towson, MD – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will play for a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on Sunday as the Pride will face Towson at 1 p.m. from Tiger Soccer Complex.
Hofstra advanced to the title game with a come-from-behind 6-4 win over James Madison in the semifinals on Friday afternoon. Hofstra trailed the Dukes, 3-2, at halftime before a dominating second half effort saw the Pride score the first four goals of the second stanza en route to the two-goal victory.
The appearance in the title game is Hofstra's fifth since joining the CAA in 2002 and the first since 2010. Hofstra previously has made title game appearances in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010. The 2007 squad won the CAA title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. That appearance in the NCAA Tournament was Hofstra's second-ever as Hofstra won the America East title in 2001 to make its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance.
It was a complete team effort for Hofstra on Friday as a multitude of players helped the Pride advanced to the championship game. Senior attacker Taylor Albright led Hofstra with three goals, while sophomore attacker Brittain Altomare notched three assists in the victory. Defensively, sophomore defender April Iannetta had five ground balls, two draw controls, one caused turnover and a goal, while sophomore goalie Kelsey Gregerson totaled five ground balls, four saves and one caused turnover. Sophomore defender Abby Wilson led a great defensive charge with two caused turnovers and helped hold CAA Co-Player of the Year Casey Ancarrow scoreless for the first time in her career when she played a complete game.
Towson advanced to the title game with an 8-7 win over Drexel on Friday. Towson, the defending conference champion, have appeared in the championship game in three straight seasons.
