Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team will play its final non-conference game of the season tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. when it meets the Great Danes of the University at Albany at Varsity Field on the Albany campus.
The Pride (23-24) will look to get back to the .500 mark and snap a three-game losing streak. The Pride is coming off a sweep at the hands of William & Mary this past weekend. The Pride was held to one run by the Tribe pitching staff, getting outscored 26-1.
Senior Jared Hammer did collect his 200th career hit in the series, becoming just the sixth player in program to reach that mark. He currently trails Jeff Vallillo (1992-95) by six hits for fifth place on the Pride's all-time hits list.
Gregg Sarra will make the start for the Pride. The senior is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in seven appearances. He made his first career start in an 11-2 win over NYIT on April 3, picking up the victory after allowing two hits and no earned runs in his three innings of work.
Albany (21-19) will start Ryan Stinar, who is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 13 appearances (three starts). Albany enters the game having lost three of its last four contests.
Hofstra is 8-3 all time against the Great Danes and has won each of the last four meetings. The Pride swept a home-and-home series from Albany last year, winning 12-4 at home and then 10-3 in Albany. The teams were scheduled for two games this year as well, but the Pride's home game on March 6 was rained out.
Following the Albany game, Hofstra will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for a critical three-game Colonial Athletic Association series with the Panthers of Georgia State. Hofstra is currently on the outside looking in for the final spot in the CAA Championship, a game behind James Madison in the loss column. The series begins Friday at 6 p.m. and continues Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. both days.
