Atlanta, GA - Andrew Fessler went eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, as Georgia State posted a 6-3 win in the rubber game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series Sunday afternoon.
Hofstra fell to 24-26, 9-15 in the CAA with the loss, while Georgia State improved to 34-19 overall and 13-11 in league play.
The Panthers scored four times in the first off Pride starter David D'Errico (3-4). Josh Merrigan led off the inning with a triple and scored when Chad Prain reached on an error. Chase Raffield then drove in Prain with a single. Three batters later, Chris Triplett delivered a single that drove in Raffield with the third run of the inning. Matt Rose closed out the scoring with a RBI double that plated Triplett.
Georgia State extended the lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the second as Caden Bailly had an RBI single and another run scored on a balk.
The Pride answered with two runs in the top of the third as Joe Perez drove in TJ Ehrsam with a single and Jared Hammer drove in Kenny Jackson with an infield single.
Hofstra plated its third run in the sixth as Matt Reistetter led off with a double, moved to third on a Hammer fly out and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Chris Nardo.
D'Errico allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits in three innings. Brett Schreiber went five innings and allowed one hit.
Reistetter finished with two hits to pace the Pride's offense.
Jerry Stuckey pitched the ninth inning for his third save of the year. Merrigan finished with two hits and two runs scored for the Panthers.
Hofstra returns to action on Friday in a doubleheader versus UNCW. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
