Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will return home to the friendly confines of the Mack Sports Complex on Saturday when the Pride hosts SMU at 4 p.m.
The Mustangs are coached by Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Larry Brown, who is in his first season at the helm of SMU. Brown, who was born in Brooklyn, NY, attended Long Beach (NY) High School before starring at North Carolina during his collegiate days.
The contest against SMU will be a Hofstra Basketball doubleheader as prior to the men’s game, the Hofstra Women’s Basketball team will take on Harvard at 1 p.m. For ticket information please call (516) HOF-TIXX. Tickets can also be purchased HERE.
Hofstra (3-4) will look to regain some of its momentum it gained after sweeping all three games at the 2K Sports Classic Hempstead Subregional from November 16-18. Those victories over South Dakota State, District of Columbia and Marshall gave the Pride a perfect 3-0 record at home this season. Away from Hempstead has been a different story for Hofstra, though, as the Pride are 0-4 on the road including dropping games at Manhattan and George Washington this past week.
In its last game, an 80-56 defeat at George Washington on Saturday, sophomore guard Taran Buie led Hofstra with 15 points, while adding three rebounds in 33 minutes of action.
SMU enters Saturday’s game sporting a stellar 7-1 record. The Mustangs have won two straight, including a 62-55 win at home over Utah on Wednesday. Jalen Jones leads SMU in scoring with an average of 16 points per game, while Nick Russell is second with 14.5 points per outing and Ryan Manuel chips in with 13.6 points per contest. Jones also leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game, while Russell has dished out a team-best 35 assists.
This game marks the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and SMU.
Following this contest Hofstra will host Wagner on Tuesday (December 4) at 7 p.m. before heading to LIU Brooklyn for a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, December 8.
