The Pride, who never led in the game, tied the contest at 2-2 and 3-3 before the Golden Eagles went on a four-goal spurt to open up a 7-3 advantage in the third. While Marquette was warming up, Hofstra went cold going on a 29-minute scoring drought from which they never recovered.

The Golden Eagles scooped up 36 ground balls to the Pride’s 28 while Hofstra took 37 shots to Marquette’s 30. Face-offs were even at 12, each team cleared all but two of their attempts and Hofstra junior goalie Chris Selva made seven stops while Marquette’s JJ Sagl made eight.

The Tigers of Princeton begin their 2014 season this Saturday against Hofstra. The Tigers were 9-6 overall last season including a 3-3 slate in the Ivy League.

Princeton returns 33 players from last year’s squad including nine starters. Leading the returnees is two-time first team All-American, senior midfielder Tom Schreiber. The Long Island native tallied team-highs of 32 assists and 60 points while adding 28 goals last season. Junior attackman Mike MacDonald led the Tigers with 43 goals and added 16 assists while classmate and linemate Kip Orban posted 27 goals and seven assists a year ago. Princeton returns all three goals from 2013 led by sophomore Matt O’Connor, who started 11 games and posted a 9.38 goals against average and a .517 save percentage.
