Our indoor Olympic-sized pool, located in the South wing of the Physical Education Building, includes four diving boards (2 1-meter and 2 3-meter), an underwater dive-tank observation window, two movable bulkheads that can divide the pool for separate activities, and comprehensive support facilities: locker rooms, showers, bleachers, offices and accessibility for the handicapped. Note: The Hofstra University Swim Center is closed for annual maintenance from Friday, Aug. 15 through Monday, Sept. 1. It will reopen on Sept. 2 at 7 a.m.

Hofstra University Summer Camps utilize the pool for a 7-week period in the summer, beginning the first week of July. The three daily weekday sessions listed above are available for open swim to members.

The Hofstra Swim Center follows the University Calendar and will close when the University closes in observance of Holidays. A complete list of closures is available in the pool office.
We close annually for a period of 2-6 weeks beginning late in the month of August for maintenance.
During this time, Swim Center members utilize other area pools as arranged by the Swim Center Director.
When using the Swim Center, please park in the lots at the end of the roadway. Cars with handicap permits may park right outside the Swim Center in the designated spots.

From All Points: From Exit M4 of the Meadowbrook Parkway you will be on Route 24 West (Hempstead Turnpike) ... Stay on 24W for about one mile ... Pass Nassau Coliseum ... Hofstra University is on both sides of Hempstead Turnpike ... You will see three overhead walkways ... For the Swim Center, you will use the North Campus Main Entrance ... make a right after the first overhead walkway and before the second overhead walkway ... Proceed to the second stop sign and make a right ... At the next stop sign is the Swim Center Roadway on your right ... Park on your left in one of the large parking lots and walk down the Swim Center Roadway to the rear of the Physical Fitness Center. The Swim Center entrance is at the end of the roadway. Please park at your own risk in the lots near the Baseball and Softball fields.
Getting Here By Bus: Long Island Bus provides public bus service serving Hempstead, Hofstra University, Nassau University Medical Center, Levittown, Farmingdale, Melville, Sunrise Mall, Babylon, via Hempstead Turnpike.
Getting Here By Rail Road: From New York City: The Long Island Rail Road provides regular commuter service from Pennsylvania Station in New York City to the Hempstead station, which is less than two miles from Hofstra's campus ... Pennsylvania Station is located at 34th Street and 8th Avenue, below Madison Square Garden. Take the Long Island Rail Road East on the Hempstead Branch to the final stop "Hempstead." Depending on the day and time, a complimentary blue Hofstra bus may be waiting at the station to take visitors and students to the Hofstra campus. The bus makes several stops on campus. Otherwise, just take a taxi for a short 5-minute trip to the Hofstra campus.
Private swim instruction is available to Swim Center Members as well as Hofstra students, faculty and staff members. Beginners of all ages are welcome, as well as those looking to develop/refine a particular stroke, technique, etc.
Lessons: $25/half-hour/ person.
Our instructors hold certifications from both the American Red Cross as Water Safety Instructors as well as the Nassau County Department of Health as Lifeguards.
If interested, please fill out a lesson request form in the office and an instructor will contact you to discuss and potentially schedule a lesson.
Lessons are scheduled during our normal hours of operation, at the convenience of both the instructor and the individual.
Please visit Hofstra University's UCCE website for information on group instruction for children. The Continuing Education Aquatics program runs on Saturday mornings. There are four sessions per year:
Fall (10 weeks), Winter (6 weeks), Spring (10 weeks) and Summer (6 weeks).
Various opportunities are available throughout the year to work as Lifeguards and Front Desk Attendants at the Hofstra Swim Center. Experience is preferred but not necessary. High school and college students, retirees, and those looking for a side-job are welcome to apply. We strive to offer a positive work environment with competitive wages and flexible scheduling. The Swim Center offers hours from 6am - 8pm weekdays, as well as Noon - 6pm on weekends. Shifts are a minimum of 5 hours each. In addition, we have numerous opportunities to work special events with hourly wages up to $12 for lifeguards and $9 for Front Desk Attendants.
The following certifications are required in order to apply for a position at the Swim Center
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- Nassau County Department of Health Lifeguard Card
FRONT DESK ATTENDANTS:
Hofstra undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply for a position at the Front Desk of the Swim Center. This position requires the following: excellent customer service and reception skills and the knowledge of or willingness to learn Microsoft Excel and Word programs.
