Newark, DE - Sophomore Matthew Gemmell posted the Pride's only win of the match at third singles as Hofstra dropped a 6-1 CAA decision at the University of Delaware Sunday afternoon. The Pride, which dropped their second consecutive match, fall to 3-7 on the season including 0-3 in conference play. The Blue Hens improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the CAA.

The Pride were swept in the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At first doubles, Troy Beneck and Adam Lawton defeated sophomore Adrien Bailly and freshman Ari Richman, 8-3. Ryan Kent and Andre Vorobyov defeated sophomores Matthew Gemmell and Antonio Pena, 8-6 at second doubles and Nolan Gelman and Jason Derene topped senior Tyler Allen and sophomore Ryhaan Gill, 8-2 at third doubles.

In singles play, Adam Lawton defeated Antonio Pena, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 at second singles for a 2-0 lead in the match. But Gemmell closed the deficit to 2-1 for the Pride with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Andre Vorobyov at third singles. But Troy Beneck (D) def. Ari Richman (H), 6-4, 6-2 at first singles to start a four-flight run for the Blue Hens to secure the victory.

The Pride return to action next Sunday, March 25 when they host Quinnipiac University at the Hofstra Tennis Center. Match time is 1 p.m.
