Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey today announced her squad’s non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 season.

The schedule includes seven teams that qualified for postseason play in 2011-12, including four squads (Texas, St. John’s, Marist and Princeton) that participated in the NCAA Tournament.

“With the return of two-time All-American Shante Evans for her senior season, we felt it was important to challenge ourselves this season with our out-of-conference schedule,” commented Kilburn-Steveskey.  “We embraced putting together a slate that would test us throughout the non-conference portion of the  2012-13 schedule and I think we have done that.  Our staff and student-athletes are excited about the upcoming season.”

As has been the case in recent years, Kilburn-Steveskey has put together a challenging slate as this year’s schedule features teams from some of the nation’s top conferences including the Big 12 (Texas), Big East (St. John’s), Southeastern (Auburn and Mississippi) and the Big 10 (Northwestern).

Hofstra opens the 2012-13 campaign on the road for the second consecutive season as the Pride will take part in the WBI Tip-Off in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Hofstra will face Stetson to open the season on November 9 before taking on one of the nation’s most recognized athletic programs, the Texas Longhorns, on November 10.

The Pride will play two of their final three games in November on the road.  On November 17 Hofstra will head to Jamaica, New York, to match-up with St. John’s.  Hofstra defeated the Red Storm, 93-82, last November for the program’s second-ever win against St. John’s.  Following the Thanksgiving break, Hofstra will head to Poughkeepsie to take on Marist on November 28.  One of three wins Hofstra had over NCAA Tournament teams a season ago, Hofstra defeated Marist, 71-69, in the title game of the New York Life Holiday Invitational.

The lone home game during that stretch will be Hofstra’s home opener as the Pride will host Saint Joseph’s (PA) on November 25.  The Hawks advanced to the second round of the WNIT a season ago.

December opens with the Pride’s second home game of the season as Harvard visits the Mack Sports Complex on December 1.

Hofstra will face a school from the Ivy League in consecutive games as the Pride will make the short trip to New Jersey to face Princeton on December 5.  Following that contest Hofstra will take its last road trip of the 2012-13 non-conference season as the Pride travels to Auburn on December 9.

The second annual Holiday Invitational will take place December 21-23 at the Mack Sports Complex and will once again feature a stellar field.  Northwestern and Mississippi will join the Pride and will take part in the three-day round-robin tournament with match-ups to be announced later this summer.

Hofstra will close the non-conference part of the 2012-13 schedule on January 3 when it hosts Norfolk State.

The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) portion of the schedule will be released at a later date.
