MTEN: Two Doubles Teams Advance To Quarters

Philadelphia, PA - The doubles teams of Matthew Gemmell and Antonio Pena and Pedro Gimenez and Johan Vila advanced to the quarterfinals of the B Flight after the first day of the Saint Joseph's Invitational. Vila also advanced to the Round of 16 in singles play at fourth singles.
Gemmell and Pena defeated Chris Matturri and Brian Pinkard of Lafayette in the first round, 9-7, and then posted an 8-6 victory over Sean Rojo and Clark Ruiz of Saint Joseph's to reach the quarters. The duo will face the winner of the Jeganathan Srinivasan/Dan Hansen (Drexel)-Ron Verano/Josh Cook (Army) match on Saturday.
Vila and Gimenez had a first round bye and then recorded an 8-6 win over the team of Erik Thunberg and Paranjay Malhotra of Saint Joseph's to reach the quarters. They will meet Ryan Pelton and Chris Seitz of Villanova on Saturday.
Vila won his only singles match of the day, posting a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Taylor Pultro of Drexel. He will face Andrew Berman of Penn on Saturday at Noon.
Pena dropped his singles match at the second flight, falling to Thunberg, 2-6, 7-5, 10-7.
The Pride will have several other singles players in action on Saturday aswill face Skyler Davis of Drexel at first singles in a second round match, Gemmell will meet Devin Bostick of Saint Joseph's at third singles, will face Malhotra at third singles, and Gimenez meets Ruiz at fourth singles.
