Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith today released her squad’s schedule for the 2013 campaign, her first at the helm of the Pride.
"I am very excited to announce our 2013 schedule," commented Smith. "We have a very competitive non-conference slate that will prepare us for our Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) games. This schedule will challenge this team to work hard and compete at a very high level."
Smith gets her first season started on Saturday, February 16 when the Pride open the slate with a home contest against New Hampshire. The game against the Wildcats starts a season-opening three-game home stand. During that stretch Hofstra also hosts Fairfield on February 20 and Colgate on February 23.
The first road game of the 2013 campaign occurs on February 27 when the Pride travels to Marist before heading into its most difficult test of the season. On March 3, Hofstra will head to College Park, Maryland to take on the Terrapins. Maryland compiled a 19-4 record a season ago and advanced to the Final Four.
Hofstra then returns home to face Yale on March 9 prior to a game at Rutgers on March 13.
The Pride will then begin a two-game home stand on March 17 when Quinnipiac comes to James M. Shuart Stadium. Temple follows with a visit to Hempstead on March 21 before Hofstra concludes the non-conference portion of the schedule at Ohio State on March 30.
Hofstra will then spend the month of April attempting to solidify its standings in the CAA as their remaining seven games of the season will all be against conference rivals.
The first road trip of the conference schedule has the Pride headed to Virginia as Hofstra takes on Old Dominion on April 5 in Norfolk before a game at William & Mary on April 7 in Williamsburg.
A second three-game home stand starts on April 12 when James Madison visits before George Mason (April 14) and defending CAA champion Towson (April 19) visit the Hempstead campus.
Hofstra will play its final road game on April 21 at Delaware before closing the regular season with a home tilt against Drexel on April 27.
The CAA Championship takes place on May 3 and 5 at the site of the highest seed.
The 26-team NCAA Championship begins on May 10 with first round games. The second round is on May 12, with the quarterfinals occurring on May 18 or 19. The Final Four will be hosted by Villanova on May 24 and 26 at Villanova Stadium.
