Hempstead, NY - Hofstra Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney welcomed back 42 student-athletes for the start of their 2013 preseason practice at the James M. Shuart Stadium complex Monday afternoon.
Tierney, who is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Pride program, returns 27 players including seven starters from last year's squad that finished 6-8. The Pride have 26 days and four scrimmages before beginning their 2013 regular season on Saturday, February 16 at Shuart Stadium against Sacred Heart University.
Hofstra is led by their top two scorers from a year ago in senior midfielder Adrian Sorichetti, who tallied 24 goals and a team-high 14 assists in 12 games, and junior attackman Lance Yapor, who posted a team-high 25 goals and 10 assists in 14 games. The Pride also return all three starting defenders in graduate-students Mark Mullen and Michael Hamilton and senior Cody Solaja. But Tierney will be looking long and hard to find the right chemistry on attack and at midfield as the preseason progresses.
With camp opening yesterday, Tierney talked to GoHofstra.com today about the start of practice, some areas of concern and the first two scrimmages against Holy Cross and host Syracuse at the Carrier Dome this Saturday, January 26. The Pride will also host Marquette and Penn at Shuart Stadium on Saturday, February 9 before the season opener a week later.
