Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Men's Lacrosse team, fresh from their 14-9 victory over Sacred Heart in the season opener at James M. Shuart Stadium last Saturday, is ranked in the top 20 in the first regular season polls of 2013 that were announced Monday,
Hofstra is ranked 20th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I Coaches Poll and 19th in the Nike-Inside Lacrosse Media Poll this week.
In the USILA Poll, 2012 national finalist Maryland takes to top spot by two points over defending national champion Loyola. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, who the Pride travel to on March 9, are third followed by Johns Hopkins and CAA-foe Massachusetts. Virginia is sixth with Cornell seventh, CAA-foe Penn State is eighth, North Carolina, another Pride opponent on April 13, ninth and Colgate tenth.
Denver leads the second ten followed by Lehigh at 12, Princeton, this week's Pride opponent, at 13, Duke at 14, and Fairfield, Hofstra's opponent on February 26, at 15. Albany, Yale, Syracuse, Ohio State and the Pride wrap-up the USILA Poll.
In the Nike-Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, Loyola takes the top spot with Maryland second and Notre Dame, Hopkins and Cornell in the top five. Virginia comes in at six with UMass seventh and Lehigh, Penn State and Colgate following.
Denver is 11th and is followed by North Carolina, Duke, Princeton and Fairfield. Albany is 16th and is followed by Ohio State, Syracuse, the Pride and Yale.
