Hempstead, NY - Pride guard Taran Buie scored a team-high 12 points but Jonathan Arledge scored a game-high 20 points to lead three Patriots in double-figures as George Mason defeated Hofstra, 79-50 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at the Mack Sports Complex Wednesday night.

The Pride, who dropped their fourth straight game, fell to 6-22 overall and 3-12 in the CAA while George Mason improved to 16-11 on the season and 9-6 in conference play.

In addition to Buie, Hofstra received nine points from Moussa Kone and eight from Stevie Mejia. In addition to Arledge's 20 points, the Patriots received 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds from Erik Copes and 10 points from Sherrod Wright. George Mason shot 54 percent (28-52) from the field including 8-for-14 from the three-point line.

While the Pride came out cold, the Patriots came out shooting and hitting and scored the first seven points in the contest over the first 4:30. Hofstra was held to just a pair of free throws by Matt Grogan at the 13:30 mark and two more by Moussa Kone with 11:35 to play in the half. By then, Mason had opened up a 14-4 lead behind four points each from Copes and Byron Allen.

A little more than a minute later, Buie hit a three-pointer and followed that with a corner jumper to close the deficit to 16-9 at the 9:45 mark. But the Patriots would go on a 9-4 run over the next 4:05 to open up a 25-13 lead after a Wright lay-up. The Pride would answer with baskets from Jordan Allen and Daquan Brown and add free throws from Kone and Buie to close to 27-19 with 1:52 remaining in the half. But Arledge scored the final five points of the half, including a three-point play with a second remaining to give GMU its biggest lead of the period at 32-19. The Patriots shot 50% (13-26) from the field with Arledge notching nine points while the Pride hit on just 4 of 27 attempts (15%) with Buie scoring six points.

The Pride shooting improved in the second half but so did Mason's as the Patriots outscored Hofstra, 28-15 over the first 10:25 of the second half to open up a 60-34 lead following an Arledge lay-up. GMU then scored 10 of the next 14 points to open their biggest lead of the contest at 70-38 with 7:12 to play following Anali Okoloji's lay-up.

The Pride will return to action on Sunday night, February 24 when they host the Monarchs of Old Dominion at the Mack Sports Complex. Game time for the SNY-televised contest is 7 p.m.
