Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will host a rare Sunday night game as Old Dominion visits the Mack Sports Complex this weekend for a 7 p.m. showdown. The game will be televised locally on SNY.
The television broadcast will also be available on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, The Comcast Network (Philadelphia) and Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast.
Sunday’s game can also be heard on the PRIDE ZONE via GoHofstra.com and on WGCH (1490 AM).
This marks the first meeting this season between Hofstra and Old Dominion, which is leaving the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) following this year to join Conference USA.
Hofstra (6-22, 3-12) dropped a 79-50 decision to George Mason on Wednesday. Sophomore guard Taran Buie led Hofstra with 12 points and tied sophomore forward Moussa Kone for the team-lead in rebounds with six. Kone added nine points to rank second on the team in that category.
The Pride will be looking to end a four-game losing streak with a win on Sunday as Hofstra’s last victory came down at UNC Wilmington on February 9.
Despite a 4-23 overall record and a 2-13 conference mark, Old Dominion does come to Hempstead on the heels of an 84-61 win over UNCW on Wednesday. The Monarchs placed five players in double figures against the Seahawks, led by DeShawn Painter’s 18 points. Painter is the only ODU player averaging double figures as he leads the way with 12.9 points and is also the top rebounder with 8.3 caroms per game.
Buie continues to lead Hofstra in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game, while sinking a team-best 46 three-pointers this season. Senior guard Stevie Mejia, who had eight points, four assists and three rebounds against George Mason, leads Hofstra in assists (109) and steals (56), while ranking second on the squad with 11.4 points per outing.
Hofstra and Old Dominion have met 23 times since the first meeting during the 1993-94 campaign. ODU holds a 15-8 lead in the series. The Monarchs won the first meeting 92-66 at the Gaucho Classic at UC Santa Barbara and ODU has won the last five meetings in the series. Hofstra’s last win came during the 2008-09 season when the Pride won, 60-51, in Hempstead.
