Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Pride Field Hockey team is one of 70 schools that have been honored with the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Award, the NFHCA announced Monday.

The award is presented to institutions that achieve a cumulative 3.0 or higher team grade point average.

The Pride, who were tied with Duke University for the third-best academic performance by a team posted a 3.52 grade point average. Central Michigan University was the top of the class for the National Academic Tem Award with a 3.61 GPA. The Pioneers of Sacred Heart University were second with a 3.55 mark. After Hofstra and Duke was a three-way tie for fifth between Rutgers University, Saint Francis University and Temple University all with a 3.49 GPA.

Hofstra, which has received the honor for three consecutive seasons, is one of six Colonial Athletic Association teams who received the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team award.

The 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad, honoring individuals, will be announced on Tuesday. The Pride placed 15 student-athletes on the team a year ago.
