Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Baseball team (17-20) travels to Manhattan College (15-17) today for a non-conference game. The contest marks the Pride’s second meeting with the Jaspers this season as Hofstra posted a 12-3 win on April 2 at University Field.

Jared Rogers (1-4) gets the start for the Pride. He will be opposed by Casey Meyers (0-0).

Hofstra is coming off a weekend that saw it take two of three from conference foe Old Dominion. The Pride swept a doubleheader, 8-4 and 5-1, before dropping a 14-5 decision in the series finale. Austin Nyman and Joe Perez had good weeks at the plate in Hofstra’s five games last week (a loss at Monmouth and a win at St. John’s, in addition to the Old Dominion series). Nyman batted .467 with five stolen bases, while Perez hit .421 with three doubles. The Pride bullpen was solid, racking up 23 innings and allowing just seven runs. Bryan Verbitsky, Brett Schreiber, Andrew Barbarino, Nick Kozlowski, Gregg Sarra and Gregg Lettini did not allow runs in any of their appearances during the week.

In Hofstra’s previous win over Manhattan, Rogers started and left after 2 2/3 innings due to a bruised knee he suffered after taking a line drive off it in the second inning. Chris Harkey came on in relief and threw 4 1/3 innings of two-hit ball to grab the win. The Pride pounded out 17 hits with Taylor Stuart notching three, including a double. Jared Hammer had two doubles and four RBIs, while Robbie Cafiero, Kevin Brantley, Perez, Chris Nardo and Nyman each had two hits in the contest. Hofstra used a 7-run fifth inning to take control of the game.

The Manhattan contest marks Hofstra’s only non-conference game of the week as the Pride welcome Delaware to University Field this weekend for a three-game set.
